Guide us waking,
O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep
we may rest in peace. The Book of Common
Prayer, p. 134
If there is one
sentence from the Daily Office that I carry with me, it has to be this antiphon
to the Song of Simeon. For me it speaks to the hours of being purposeful as
well as to the hours of downtime. Michael
Bamberger
I
too have come to love this. Much of my downtime lately has been in waiting
rooms or in hospital hallways and lobbies. It helps me to remember always that
God is my companion in those times of quiet waiting just as He is in my times
of busy running and activity. He waits with me. Often that is all I need to be
comforted. Just knowing that someone who cares about me is waiting with me
makes the waiting easier and the time seems to move a little faster.
